IT project management is the process of planning, organizing and assigning responsibilities for achieving a company specified information technology objectives.

Overseeing software development, hardware install, network upgrades, cloud computing, virtualization rollouts, business analytics, data management initiatives and delivering IT services are all examples of IT project management.

In addition to the typical issues that can cause a project to fail advances in technology during the projects execution infrastructure changes that impact security and data management and unknown dependent relationships among hardware, software, network infrastructure and data are all factors that can negatively impact the success of an IT project.

The areas should not be controlled in any particular order rather the project manager switches to the appropriate knowledge and processes dependent on the situation.

IT Project Life Cycle

The project life cycle is affected by various distinct ways to manage an IT project. Organizations can choose from one of these popular ways to assist limit the danger of costly rework hazards from rapidly changing technology or extensive planning at the projects start.
